‘…teaching as much as possible by arousing and stimulatingexploratory interest rather than by regimented instruction, is notonly biologically sound but yields promising results.‘ Niko Tinbergen | | 'Tell me - I forget Show me - I remember Involve me - I understand.'
Years ago, my PhD supervisor, the distinguished human physiologist Rainer Goldsmith, had this excellent maxim, framed on his office wall.
I am keen to inspire students to acquire a good understanding of the fundamental principles of the field. I aim to foster an ethos of intellectual rigour that is also socially supportive and enjoyable.
I've taught at a number of universities, including King's College London, University College London and Oxford University, as well as my present institution, Buckinghamshire New University.
I also give invited talks and seminars. Prior engagements have included 'Age and Attraction' at the Dana Centre and 'Hearts and Minds - Psychology at Work and the Moderation of Stress' at Hoare's Bank.
